Shivamogga
Hospitals should not only provide medical care but also build confidence and trust among patients, said Member of Parliament B.Y. Raghavendra while addressing a healthcare event in Shivamogga.
He was speaking after inaugurating cancer-related endoscopy and chemotherapy service units at the Narayana Super Speciality Clinic located on Kuvempu Road. The initiative is part of the clinic’s expansion to strengthen advanced cancer care services in the region.
The Narayana Clinic already operates a 250-bed hospital in Shivamogga that treats cancer and cardiac patients. As part of its expansion plan, the healthcare group is setting up multiple branches across the city. The newly inaugurated facility aims to reduce the need for patients to travel long distances to cities like Bengaluru and Manipal for specialized cancer treatment.
MP Raghavendra emphasized that hospitals must strengthen the doctor–patient relationship by ensuring emotional support along with medical treatment. He said healthcare providers should instill mental strength and confidence in patients undergoing critical illnesses such as cancer. He also noted that the availability of advanced treatment within Shivamogga would ease the financial and logistical burden on families.
Highlighting government initiatives, he mentioned that the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has removed import duties on 17 essential cancer medicines, helping reduce the financial burden on patients.
He added that the vision is to ensure world-class healthcare facilities within Shivamogga itself so that residents do not need to travel outside the region for advanced treatment. He described the goal as building a “healthy Shivamogga” through improved healthcare infrastructure.
Senior oncologist Dr. Aparna said Narayana Health has been serving patients in the region for the past decade. She noted that the new unit on Kuvempu Road has been launched to provide better access to cancer care and assured continued commitment to both medical and psychological support for patients.
Senior doctors and hospital officials were present during the inauguration ceremony.
