With this achievement, MCF joins the elite group of manufacturing units producing India’s flagship semi-high-speed trains

The Modern Coach Factory (MCF) in Raebareli has rolled out its first 16-car Vande Bharat Chair Car trainset, marking another major step in India’s railway modernisation programme.

The new train has been dispatched for testing and field trials before entering regular passenger service.

The Vande Bharat project began in 2018 with only two trainsets and is now approaching the milestone of 100 trainsets across the country. MCF has now joined the list of Vande Bharat manufacturers with this latest rollout equipped with an advanced Siemens propulsion system.

Officials said the train will undergo oscillation trials to test ride quality, safety standards and overall performance. The trainset includes modern features aimed at improving passenger comfort, reliability and operational safety.

The train offers comfortable seating, jerk-free travel, fully sealed gangways and automatic plug doors to reduce outside noise. It is also fitted with the indigenous “Kavach” Automatic Train Protection system for better safety during operations.

Advanced fire detection and aerosol-based fire suppression systems have also been installed. Flood protection measures for underslung equipment have been added to improve performance during difficult weather conditions.

The train’s interior has been developed using vacuum infusion technology, which ensures a better finish and improved durability. The train is also fully accessible for Divyangjan passengers with ramps, dedicated spaces and specialised facilities.

Railway officials said the new Vande Bharat train reflects India’s progress in building high-speed, safe and comfortable railway systems using indigenous technology. The latest addition strengthens Indian Railways’ focus on innovation, passenger convenience and world-class manufacturing standards. Officials believe the expanding Vande Bharat network will improve travel experience and support the country’s growing demand for modern rail transportation in the coming years.
