Ban on sacrifice and alcohol at fair: Suresh B. Itnal

Administration ordered awareness via loudspeakers, notices, announcements; police, revenue, veterinary officials to enforce ban with strict vigilance

Koppal

Koppal District Magistrate Dr. Suresh B. Itnal has directed officials to strictly ban animal sacrifice and alcohol consumption during the 2026 annual fair of Sri Huligemma Devi Temple.

Officials said animal sacrifice is already prohibited in Huligi Kshetra, but there are chances of violations during and after the fair. To prevent this, authorities have been instructed to set up check posts on major routes including Hospet, Shivpur, Hitnat and Hosur roads. Police teams will monitor movement and ensure that no animals are brought into the temple area.

The administration has also asked departments to create awareness among devotees through loudspeakers, notices and public announcements. Strict vigilance will be maintained by police, revenue and veterinary officials to enforce the ban effectively.

In addition, steps have been taken to prevent alcohol consumption during the fair. Authorities fear that drinking could lead to disturbances and inconvenience to devotees. As a precaution, the Excise Department has been instructed to ban the sale of liquor in nearby villages including Huligi, Hosalli, Singapore and Hitnat on the day of the Maharathotsava.

Officials said these measures aim to ensure a peaceful and safe environment for devotees attending the fair. Departments including police, revenue, and animal husbandry have been directed to work together and take strict action against violations.

The district administration urged the public to cooperate with the guidelines and maintain the sanctity of the religious event.
