BJP exudes confidence
Guwahati
Assam Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah on Friday expressed strong confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s prospects in the upcoming Assembly elections, predicting a decisive mandate for the ruling alliance and victory across key constituencies, including all three seats in Nalbari district.
Speaking to reporters, Baruah asserted that the BJP-led alliance is heading toward a sweeping victory in the state. He claimed that the electorate has already made up its mind in favour of the ruling party, adding that opposition parties, particularly those led by the Congress, would lose political relevance once the results are declared.
Baruah took a direct swipe at opposition leaders, stating that discussions around Congress and its allies would fade after May 4, when the election results are expected. He emphasised that the BJP’s extensive grassroots campaigning and outreach efforts have generated strong public support across regions.
Focusing on Nalbari district, the minister said the party is confident of winning all three Assembly constituencies, highlighting it as a key battleground in Lower Assam. He further projected a significant overall victory for the BJP, estimating that the party would secure no fewer than 90 seats in the 126-member Assam Assembly.
According to Baruah, even crossing the 100-seat mark would not be surprising, given what he described as overwhelming support for the party. He pointed out that the BJP’s position in Lower Assam has strengthened considerably over the past five years, compared to previous elections.
In the last Assembly elections, we won 20 out of 51 seats in Lower Assam. This time, we are confident of winning at least 35 seats in the region, he said, underlining improved organisational strength and voter outreach.
The minister also expressed optimism about the party’s chances in Tamulpur, predicting a comfortable victory for BJP candidate Biswajit Daimary. He suggested that strong performances in constituencies like Nalbari and Tamulpur would play a decisive role in shaping the final election outcome.
With Lower Assam emerging as a crucial electoral zone, the BJP’s performance in the region is expected to be a key determinant of its overall success. Baruah concluded by reiterating that the party is poised to return to power with a significantly stronger mandate.
