Mandya

Retired professor Dr. Anand D. said that Dr. B. R. Ambedkar remains one of the greatest humanists in world history. He was speaking at Mandya Government College during a conference organized by the Ambedkar Vichar Vedike to mark the 135th birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. He explained that Ambedkar played a historic role in drafting major social reforms, especially the Hindu Code Bill, which aimed to ensure equality and justice for women in society. The law introduced equal rights related to property, marriage, divorce and adoption, though it faced strong opposition before being passed in separate Acts later.

He said Ambedkar worked for women’s education and encouraged awareness of constitutional rights to fight caste discrimination and build a fair society. Speakers said students must study Ambedkar’s life, values and philosophy and apply them in daily life to promote harmony and equality in society. Prof. Gururaj Prabhu said Ambedkar was a social reformer whose ideas continue to guide modern India toward unity and democratic values. College officials and faculty members also attended the event and emphasized the importance of equality, education and social justice for all citizens.

The program highlighted Ambedkar’s vision of a democratic society where every individual enjoys equal opportunity and dignity without discrimination. Organizers said that understanding his teachings is important for building a peaceful, inclusive and progressive nation for future generations. They added that Ambedkar’s contributions to law, education and social reform continue to inspire students and scholars across the country today. The event concluded with a call to promote equality and justice by following Ambedkar’s principles in both thought and action in society. Participants expressed that Ambedkar’s ideas remain highly relevant in addressing inequality, protecting rights and strengthening democracy in modern India. Speakers encouraged youth to read and understand his writings so that they can contribute positively to society and uphold constitutional values.

Leaders present at the programme said that Ambedkar’s message of equality, education and social justice should be practiced in daily life and every institution should work towards removing discrimination and building a society based on respect, rights and harmony.
