Forest officer narrowly escapes death from tree

UDUPI

A terrifying accident nearly turned fatal in Havanje village when a massive roadside tree crashed onto a moving car. Devaraj, a local forest department officer, managed to survive the incident without a single injury, though his vehicle was not as fortunate.

The close call happened at Golikatte while Devaraj was driving to work. As he passed a busy stretch of the main road, the giant tree suddenly gave way, collapsing directly onto his car. The impact was violent, completely crushing the rear section of the vehicle. Witnesses were shocked to see Devaraj emerge from the wreckage unharmed, a feat many are calling a miraculous escape.

The timing of the collapse has sparked serious concern among local residents. The tree fell right next to a public bus stop, an area that is usually crowded with commuters and students during the morning rush hour. Had the tree veered just a few feet in either direction, it likely would have flattened the bus shelter or hit several other passing vehicles, potentially leading to a high number of casualties.

Local authorities are now under pressure to inspect other aging trees along the district’s main roads to prevent a repeat of today’s near-disaster. While Devaraj is back home safe, the sight of his mangled car serves as a grim reminder of how quickly a routine morning commute can turn into a fight for survival. Public safety officials are urged to act before luck runs out.
